The publishing firm was founded by Gordon Burgett in 1981.

 

Before publishing, Burgett was a sixth-grade teacher, an instructor at many colleges, the Dean of Students at St. Dominic's in St. Charles, Illinois, and the Dean of Evening Administration at Cal State, Dominguez Hills. He has offered an average of 100 workshops annually since 1980 at colleges and universities mostly throughout California. He also speaks nationwide to associations and other groups about his most recent (of 27) books, How to Plan A Great Second Life: What Are You Going to Do With Your Extra 30 Years?
